Tsum Valley Trek

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola
You leave the busy streets of Kathmandu early, following winding highways along rivers and terraced hills. As the road narrows and becomes rough, the landscape turns more rural and rugged. By the time you reach Soti Khola, you’ve already left behind the city vibe and stepped into a quieter Himalayan setting.

Day 2: Soti Khola to Machha Khola
The trek begins with a gentle introduction—walking through subtropical forests, small villages, and along the Budhi Gandaki River. You’ll cross suspension bridges and pass waterfalls. The trail has a mix of ups and downs, but nothing too demanding yet.

Day 3: Machha Khola to Jagat
The valley narrows, and the trail becomes more dramatic with cliffs and river gorges. You’ll notice more stone paths and traditional architecture. Arriving in Jagat, you officially enter the Manaslu Conservation Area, and the environment begins to feel more structured and culturally distinct.

Day 4: Jagat to Lokpa
Today is a key transition day. You climb through forests and ridgelines, leaving the main Manaslu trail behind. As you reach Lokpa, the first views of the Ganesh Himal range appear, and you’ve now entered the hidden Tsum Valley.

Day 5: Lokpa to Chumling
The trail descends into a quieter, more secluded valley. You’ll cross long suspension bridges and walk through pine forests. Chumling is a peaceful village with a monastery and classic Tibetan-style homes—your first deep immersion into Tsum culture.

Day 6: Chumling to Chhokangparo
You gradually gain altitude, and the scenery opens up. The valley widens, revealing expansive views of surrounding peaks like Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. The villages here feel more Tibetan, with chortens, mani walls, and prayer flags lining the trail.

Day 7: Acclimatization Day in Chhokangparo
A slower day to adjust to the altitude. You can explore nearby villages, interact with locals, and visit monasteries. The air is thinner now, and the pace naturally becomes more relaxed.

Day 8: Chhokangparo to Nile (via Milarepa’s Cave)
The landscape becomes more barren and high-altitude in character. Along the way, you visit Milarepa’s Cave, a sacred meditation site linked to a famous Tibetan saint. As you approach Nile, the environment feels closer to Tibet—both culturally and geographically.

Day 9: Nile to Mu Gompa and Back
This is one of the trek’s highlights. You hike to Mu Gompa, the highest and most remote monastery in the valley, located near the Tibetan border. The setting is stark and beautiful, with wide-open mountain views and a deep sense of isolation.

Day 10: Nile to Chhokangparo
You begin your descent, retracing your steps. The return journey offers a different perspective—landscapes you passed earlier now feel more familiar and easier to navigate.

Day 11: Chhokangparo to Chumling
Descending further, the air gets thicker and walking becomes easier. You’ll notice more greenery returning as you lose altitude.

Day 12: Chumling to Lokpa
Climbing back up to Lokpa feels different than the way in, but the views and forests make it rewarding. You’re gradually leaving the inner valley behind.

Day 13: Lokpa to Jagat
You rejoin the main trail. The route feels busier compared to Tsum Valley, reminding you how remote the valley truly was.

Day 14: Jagat to Machha Khola
A long descent through familiar terrain—stone steps, river crossings, and villages.

Day 15: Machha Khola to Soti Khola
Your final trekking day. It’s a reflective walk as you pass through the lower hills and retrace your first steps.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu
The journey back brings you full circle—from remote mountain silence to the energy of the capital.
