Overview

The Dhaulagiri Round Trek is a remote and challenging Himalayan expedition that circles the majestic Mount Dhaulagiri, offering one of the most dramatic and less-traveled trekking experiences in Nepal. This 17-day journey begins and ends in Kathmandu, gradually transitioning from subtropical valleys to high-altitude glaciers, and finally back through traditional mountain villages.

The adventure starts with a scenic journey to Pokhara, followed by a drive to the trailhead in the Myagdi region. From here, the route ascends through quiet villages, terraced farmland, dense forests, and increasingly rugged terrain as trekkers enter the wilderness of western Nepal.

As the trek progresses deeper into the Dhaulagiri region, the landscape becomes more extreme and isolated. Trekkers pass through remote valleys, glacial moraines, and high alpine zones before reaching Italian Base Camp, Glacier Camp, and eventually Dhaulagiri Base Camp. These areas offer close-up views of massive ice walls and surrounding Himalayan peaks.

One of the most challenging highlights of the trek is crossing the high-altitude French Pass (5,360m), which leads into the isolated Hidden Valley. From here, the route descends through alpine pastures and yak grazing lands, eventually connecting with the Mustang region.

The journey concludes in the culturally rich village of Marpha and continues to Jomsom, where trekkers fly back to Pokhara before returning to Kathmandu.

This trek is considered highly demanding, requiring strong physical fitness, prior trekking experience, and good acclimatization. However, it rewards adventurers with untouched wilderness, breathtaking mountain scenery, and one of the most authentic and raw Himalayan experiences in Nepal.
