Pangarchulla Peak Trek Itinerary (via Joshimath)

Day 1: Arrival at Joshimath – Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas
Your journey begins in Joshimath, a scenic mountain town perched above the Alaknanda River. The long drive from Haridwar or Rishikesh winds through deep valleys and river confluences.
By evening, the air feels thinner and cooler—a first hint of the altitude ahead. Snow-clad peaks occasionally reveal themselves in the distance. This day is mainly for rest, gear check, and mental preparation for the trek.

Day 2: Drive to Dhak & Trek to Gulling – Into the Forests
A short drive takes you to Dhak village, where the trek begins. The trail immediately starts ascending through terraced fields before entering dense forests.
The path to Gulling is a gradual climb, shaded by oak and rhododendron trees. During spring, the forest bursts into red blooms, adding color to the climb.
As you reach Gulling, the forest opens into a clearing with breathtaking views of towering peaks like Dronagiri. The campsite feels peaceful, surrounded by wilderness and crisp mountain air.

Day 3: Gulling to Khullara – Higher into Alpine Terrain
The trail continues through thick forests, but the scenery slowly changes. Trees become shorter, and the terrain transitions into alpine meadows.
You’ll notice the temperature dropping and the air becoming sharper. Occasional clearings reveal dramatic Himalayan views, making frequent stops irresistible.
Khullara camp sits at a higher altitude, offering a wider panorama of the Garhwal range. Nights here are colder, and the sky often fills with countless stars.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day / Kuari Pass Exploration
This day is designed to help your body adjust to the altitude. A short hike toward Kuari Pass gives you stunning views without overexertion.
The trail traverses rolling meadows known as bugyals, with expansive views of peaks like Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, and Kamet.
Returning to Khullara, you’ll feel more prepared for the summit push. Rest is crucial, as the next day is the most demanding.

Day 5: Summit Day – Pangarchulla Peak (The Big Climb)
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. You start very early—often around 2–4 AM—under a sky full of stars.
The initial trail climbs steadily, but soon becomes steep and demanding. Depending on the season, you may encounter snow slopes requiring careful footing.
After hours of ascent, you finally reach Pangarchulla Peak (approx. 4,590 m).
From the summit, a breathtaking 360° panorama unfolds—majestic peaks like Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, and Dronagiri dominate the horizon. The sense of achievement here is immense.
After spending some time at the top, you descend back to Khullara, completing a long and exhausting day.

Day 6: Descent via Auli to Joshimath – Closing the Loop
The descent takes you through beautiful meadows like Gurson Bugyal, eventually leading to Auli, a famous ski destination.
From Auli, a short drive brings you back to Joshimath. The trek ends here, but the memories of high mountains, forests, and the summit stay with you long after.
