The descent is via Auli, ending back at Joshimath.

Overview

The Pangarchulla Peak trek is an adventurous high-altitude journey in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, starting from the mountain town of Joshimath. Known for its thrilling summit climb and sweeping Himalayan views, this trek offers a perfect blend of forest trails, alpine meadows, and snow-covered ridges.

The trail begins with a gradual ascent from Dhak village, leading trekkers through dense oak and rhododendron forests. As the journey progresses, the landscape transforms dramatically—trees thin out, giving way to open meadows and vast high-altitude terrain. Camps like Gulling and Khullara provide stunning views of surrounding peaks and serve as key acclimatization points.

One of the highlights of the trek is the excursion to Kuari Pass, a scenic high-altitude pass known for its panoramic Himalayan vistas. From here, trekkers can witness iconic peaks such as Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Kamet, and Dronagiri stretching across the horizon.

The ultimate challenge of the trek is the ascent to Pangarchulla Peak (approx. 4,590 meters). The summit push is steep and demanding, often involving snow climbs and rocky sections, especially in spring. However, the reward at the top is extraordinary—a 360-degree view of some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in India.

The descent route passes through the picturesque meadows of Gurson Bugyal and leads to Auli, a well-known ski destination. From here, trekkers return to Joshimath, completing the circuit.
